This is the only Torah portion since the birth of Moses not to mention his name. Why?
The classical Torah commentator, Ba'al HaTurim, finds the answer in the story of the Golden Calf. Chassidut uses this as a jumping off point to examine the nature of a tsaddik, and his particular role as leader of the Jewish people.
To find the answer, Rabbi Eliyahu Noson Silberberg explores the difference between one's name and one's essence, to arrive at an understanding of what Moses really meant when he challenged G-d to forgive the Jewish people for their sin or "erase my name from Your book."
