The Babylonian Talmud has thousands of pages and is divided into many sections concerning almost every aspect of life. It deals with issues of Jewish law in detail as well as tells wonderful stories and myths. The discussions feature various points of view, each with the goal of trying to reach the truth on the particular issue. Some of the sections of the Talmud are particularly well known- even young children are familiar with them. Yet, despite their familiarity amongst the Jewish people, there is always room for new ideas and innovative perspectives.
The program, “The Favorite Sugya,” invites speakers from a variety of backgrounds - rabbis and intellectuals, artists and journalists - to select a section from the Talmud, which they see as interesting and important and expound on their ideas in relation to that section of Talmud.
