The History of the Oral Tradition (1)

Everyone knows that Kashrut, Shabbat, fasting on Yom Kippur and eating matzah on Passover are foundational mitzvot.  But did you know that the very first question a soul is asked "upstairs" is, "Did you conduct your business with honesty?" Not whether you kept Shabbat, kosher, or fasted. Clearly, honesty and business ethics are at the core of what it means to live a fulfilled Jewish life.

Life today poses many ethical questions that didn't exist in the past: is it ethical to browse a brick and mortar store in order to decide what to order online? What is Judaism's take on counterfeit designer goods?  Do intellectual property laws apply to material published on the web?  Judaism has the answers...derived from the millennia old wisdom of our traditions.

But what are these codes of ethics we are obligated to uphold, and where are they derived from?  Rabbi Yacov Barber guides us through the transmission of the Written and Oral laws of the Torah as they developed into the principles and precendents embodied within Jewish case-law: the Talmud and Shulchan Aruch.
