What Determines Which Days Are Holidays?

Rabbi Naftali Silberberg  Advanced

Unlike secular holidays, Jewish ones aren't just commemorations of events that happened in the past, but rather they are reliving and experiencing anew divine revelations that occur on those days every year. Furthermore, a Jewish holiday isn't special because of what took place on that day, but vice versa; the special divine energy on that day results in the event taking place.
