Mrs. Fran Laufer

Mrs. Fran Laufer

With the defeat of the Nazis and the liberation of the Jews from the German death camps, Fran Fuchsbrumer found herself alone, an orphan bereft of her parents and siblings. Fran was in frail health and the prospects for her future seemed bleak. Upon her liberation from Bergen-Belsen she joined a community of survivors where she met her future husband, Simon Laufer. Fran and Simon created a life and a future together based upon traditional Jewish values. Fran did not waste time or energy feeling sorry or bemoaning her tragic past. Instead, Fran was consumed with the determination to make up for the lost years of her youth. From the time she stepped foot in America, Fran worked hard to make her new life work. She went to school and became fluent in the English language which opened countless doors of opportunity for her. She enrolled in and graduated from the New York School of Interior Design and the Fashion Institute of Technology. Fran's panache for interior design and her impeccable taste brought her much success when she opened her showroom, The Fran Laufer Collection, which was sought after and represented in interior design showrooms across America. Her fashion flair and sense of style are her trademarks, and she brings presence and grace wherever she goes. Despite her professional acclaim, Fran never forgot her roots and her responsibility to the Jewish community. Fran was the founding President of the Rivkah Laufer Bikur Cholim and remains the driving force and energy behind this worthy organization until today. Fran is a celebrated speaker on Jewish topics, especially on the Holocaust, and was invited to give testimony for the Steven Spielberg Holocaust Foundation and also at Yale University in New Haven Connecticut. Most recently, Fran Laufer authored a book entitled A Vow Fulfilled. This is one more example of Fran's determination to educate and keep the lessons from the Holocaust alive as she crusades to ensure that the rich heritage of Europe and the tragedies of the Holocaust never be forgotten.
