This week we begin the book of Bamidbar which will give an accounting of the Jewish people’s travels through the desert. It begins with Parshat Bamidbar in which Hashem counts the Jewish people. Just as a shepherd will repeatedly could his flock, so too, Hashem’s counting of the Jewish people is an expression of his great love for us.
