Tetzaveh: The Rebbe's Message to Us

One of the central components of chassidism is the Rebbe-Chassid relationship. Every chassidic group has its rebbe, who seems to be at the center of the religious experience.  But what is the function of a rebbe -- and why can't we access G-d on our own?

A second pillar of chassidism is the understanding that every Jew is born with deep innate faith, and that this inner essence can spring to light under the direst most inhospitable circumstances, and in people who previously seemed to have little connection to G-d.

In 1992, the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson addressed both of these topics in this ma'amar based on the verse "VeAta Tetzaveh - And you shall command," explaining the connection between Rebbe and faith, and a level of connection to G-d that even transcends mesirut nefesh - self-sacrifice.

This was the last ma'amar the Rebbe said, personally distributing printed copies to all in attendance on 14 Adar, 1992; the ma'amar was a continuation of a discourse began by the previous Rebbe, Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Schneersohn, in 1927.
Rabbi Eliyahu Noson Silberberg guides the viewer through this ma'amar in a clear, and engaging manner, to arrive at a collective mission statement for life.
