Ryan Gerber was born and raised in Teaneck, New Jersey. After high school, Ryan attended The College of New Jersey, where he was a founder and president of his campus’ chapter of Alpha Epsilon Pi, the international Jewish Fraternity. Majoring in philosophy, Ryan graduated in 2010 cum laude and was inducted to Phi Beta Kappa. After college, Ryan was a Fellow in AVODAH: The Jewish Service Corps, where he worked as a case-handler at the New York Legal Assistance Group (NYLAG). Subsequently, Ryan switched positions at NYLAG working as the executive assistant to Yisroel Schulman, the president of NYLAG. Currently, Ryan is a first year law student at Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, where he participated in Sinai Scholars.

Ryan's Paper: Rising divorce rates and changes in the family structure have been well documented over the last fifty years. In particular, many have written recently on the changing dating and marriage norms of the millennial generation. A confluence of factors, including changing economic realities, has led to these paradigm shifts. In this paper I attempt to articulate the problems that marriage faces in the modern world, and then look to Jewish sources to propose ways that the new generation can adapt to new challenges.

This presentation was delivered at the Sinai Scholars Academic Symposium 2013.
The Sinai Scholars Symposium is a yearly conference for university students, hosted by the Sinai Scholars Society.  Students from around the world gather with an esteemed panel of Ivy League professors, world-class Torah scholars and experts in their field to study, discuss and present their thoughts on various subjects that deal with Judaism and the modern world.  Each student prepares an academic paper which they present to their colleagues and a panel of judges.
